Description

Konigin Victoriaberg has an interesting history and British connections. In 1845, Queen Victoria and her husband Prince Albert visited Hochheim and were led by the city fathers to “the most beautiful and best vineyard” of the district for a wine tasting. In 1850 Georg Michael Papstmann – the owner of the vineyard at that time – was, because of Victoria’s enthusiasm, granted the permission by the British Crown to call the vineyard “Königin Victoriaberg”. Further, as a commemoration, an English neo-Gothic monument (pictured on the label) was erected among the vines. The wine has been served at many state events since, whenever the British royal family has visited German, most recently to Prince William and Kate in 2017. A superb example of an elegant and subtle Riesling. It has a light petal nose with stone fruits – apricot and peach – coming through on the palate and refreshing lime on a long finish yet with enough richness to develop with age.
