Description
Ferguson Valley, Australia
Vermentino is a grape of Italian heritage, growing mostly in Sardinia though now planted in Languedoc – and here from Australia. It makes a light-bodied white wine that is also complex and can be regarded as a similar style to Sauvignon Blanc.
During winemaking the grapes are crushed and pressed to tank, naturally clarified, and racked to retain some turbidity, adding a textural element. Fermented and matured on its lees, then lightly fined and filtered prior to bottling.
Across Western Australia, the 2024 vintage was the earliest on record, with extremely hot growing conditions in the Swan Valley. Despite this, the fruit produced was of excellent quality and intensity.
Tasting Notes: Pale straw colour with a lighter greenish hue. Lifted aromas of citrus blossom. The palate is textural, with flavours of crisp red apples and a long, appealing, umami, sea spray finish.
Food pairing suggestions: Light and crispy fritto misto with fried lemons and herbs
