Description
Bacchus is a German cross breed of Riesling and Silvaner grapes that ripens early and was usually grown to make sweet wines. Dryer styles, such as this are now much more fashionable.
“Lieblingswein” on the label indicates it is a “Favourite Wine” of the estate.
At a dryish 8.1 g/l it displays a rich tapestry of aromas and flavours, including floral tones that develop delicately on the palate.
Grapes are sourced from the Neuleiningen Sonnenberg vineyard, at an altitude up to 320 meters, which is of calcareous limestone which stores the day’s warmth and releases it slowly – ideal for the vines. In the lower-lying areas, calcareous marl soils predominate, lending the wines precision and minerality.
Tasting Notes: Pale yellow colour; a restrained bouquet with secondary aromas of nuts behind the light floral and fruit character. The palate is much fuller with a creamy mouth-feel, sweet ripe fruit with a little gooseberry – the medium-long finish is off-dry.
